Day 540 - Nov 20, 2009

Today was a very long day. We had to go over to the VA hospital for an appt so that we could get Kevin's medications refilled. It ended up being a 7 hour day because it takes hours to get meds from the pharmacy. Grrr...

Other than that, we just took a walk around the block tonight. We didn't get to ride bike today, and that was kinda depressing, but there just wasn't time.

Neither one of us has had time to get in the pool at all this week either. Tomorrow is the day, I hope. It's just been so crazy getting everything organized to be back home.

And I know I said I was going to get to some more of the comments, but I think I am going to go to bed a little early tonight.

Hi Leslie,

Suggestion???

Next time you go to VA for Meds take a large bag [like you would for the beach] fill it with...
1] easy snacks and a favorite drink or two for each of you
2] a couple of game-type items [hand-held eltronic, or a deck of cards]
3] an i-pod or two with ear-phones
4] a book for you if Kevin wants to play with the eltronics
5] a small blanket to sit on

Then ask the pharmacy techs how long the wait will be. If it is several hours then inform them that you and Kevin will be in either in the 'court yard' [if they have a 'court yard'] or out front under the trees enjoying the air. They can then give you a quick call on the cell when the meds are ready. If they can't do that then you and Kevin will be checking back later.

This way you are there and available but not stuck in the hallway/waiting room. I've been stuck in hallways/waiting room with 3 small boys without a thing to keep my them busy/entertained so they were bored "to death" AND I was just about ready to go to the physic ward when it was time to leave. Gawd, what memories.

This "survival bag" can be made up the night before and put in the car so you aren't rushing around in the morning before you leave. In fact Kevin can pick out the snacks, drinks and games then put the bag in the car.

Hope this helps.

Leslie,
The VA should have a mail order pharmacy that you could use. That would certainly prevent the ridiculous wait you had.
