Day 584 - Jan 3, 2010

We had a pretty good day today. Kevin and I had to run to Lowe's again and get the fencing for the other side of the yard. I had not intended to fence in the side on the road, but after seeing what a difference it makes I knew it would benefit us.

After that we went and purchased a recliner so that I can get him out of his bed. He lays in bed probably 3/4 of the day and I want him to understand that that just isn't the way it is supposed to be. I sure hope this helps. He picked out the one he liked so it should have some effect on his wanting to make the change from bed to chair.

After that we went to my parents' house and visited with them for a while. It was a nice visit - Kevin was in a good mood the whole time, but we couldn't get him to play any games, which was a bummer.

And I had a chance to read the article in the PPG today and it is wonderful! You can all read it here:

Pittsburgh Post Gazette

That Mike is just a fantastic writer. Just as much as Rebecca is a fabulous photographer. What a good team, huh?

And I think I am going to get some scrapbooking in tonight so I will catch y'all tomorrow.

Great article and it is amazing how far Kevin has come in his recovery. This next year will be full of more amazing progress. :)

Hope the recliner helps motivate Kevin to get out of bed more. I wonder if he stays in bed b/c it affects the fluid in his head -- perhaps when he is lying down it is less painful or disorienting? Not sure, just a musing that came to me but I'm sure you've pondered that too.

Would love to see more photos of your scrapping! Hope tomorrow goes well.

Glad you had a good day and hope you continue to have good ones!
Sounds like the recliner will be very helpful.
Have a great Monday!

Hello Leslie,

Read the article.

That should be on the front page of every newspaper in this country.
What our 'Warriors' are going thru to recover from wounds is being kept mostly in the dark by it not being reported on to the tax-payers that have been/are paying for the treatments.
If it weren't for you, none of us would never know of Kevin and all that he is struggling with in the daily living of life.
My thoughts go daily to those like Kevin that have NO one in their corner to fight for them as you have fought for Kevin.
Discharge them from the hospitial and sweep it under the rug was/is mostly the policy and human nature.
These 'Warriors' deserve better from all who enjoy the ability to live in a state of freedom bought with their dedication and commitment to duty.

Happy New Year Leslie, Kevin and Breezy! May it be the best year yet for you all - filled with love, health, happiness and even more incredible progress for Kevin!

Fantastic article, thanks for sharing that with us! And your quote at the end really summed it all up... "He's come so far, I expect him to go farther, much, much farther. I'm anxious to see what the future holds."

And we're all anxious out here as well!! I am looking so forward to watching the miracle that is Kevin continue to unfold.

God bless you all. Please know that every day thoughts, prayers, support and loads of Angel Hugs come your way. And they always will.

I agree with the past comments!! What a wonderful written article in the Gazette. The man speaks the truth, but also from the heart! I personallly heard Kevin talk when you and I spoke on the phone..lol his new word then was "star"! So I agree with your prediction for the new year...Kevin will improve more so than he has already. He is proving that everyday. Yes, there will be small steps backwards...but the ones he goes forwards makes up for the bad days! And with you to guide him in the right direction, neither of you can go wrong!! Take care!
