Day 201 - Dec 18, 2008

We got our van today. Yay (hehe). You should've seen the look on Kevin's face when I told him he was the proud owner of a new minivan, lol. Suffice it to say, I believe he feels about them exactly as I do.

BUT - it was really nice to get Kevin out of bed for the first time in a week and a half and load him up into the car and drive around for an hour or so. We even stopped for chinese takeout and Kevin wanted to get out of the car and go into the restaurant. I am pleased to say that he didn't even feel the need to go to the bathroom while we were in there (but there were only about 4 people in there which makes a huge difference). I am hoping to take him out at least 4 or 5 times a week for small trips like that. I really do think that the more we go out in public, the easier it will get (for both of us).

I was kinda surprised that we were allowed to take Kev out and do this tonight, but the docs assured me that it's no different than it has been for the last how many months. After thinking about it, I suppose they are right. His head has been large since the beginning so if he feels up to going - we are gonna do it!

Other than that, Kev did have a much better day today. He was pretty much awake the bulk of the day and he was in a better mood too. He did have his therapies and I was glad to see him tolerating the chair for hours again. I was worried that we lost all that we had gained recently. He hasn't went down to the gym and walked again yet, but I'm sure he will next week.

Well, off to bed for me...

Great news today. And yay for getting the van (even if it is a 'van', LOL) and being able to get out to get dinner.

I'm sure with time Kevin will get used to getting out of the hospital and his trips will be less anxious. The van will help that tons!

Hope he can get down to the gym next week. Thoughts coming your way from SoCal.

Leslie - congrats on the new wheels. I had the same van hang up you did - but now I don't have it and I miss the space. You will learn to love it - and all the freedom that you find with it for Kevin.

At this time of year - it is even more important than ever we remember those that have fought for all that we have. I thank you and Kevin for all that you have done. I read your stories daily and am inspired by the grace and dedication that you have - and also by your strenght to stand up for what you need - even if it means peopel will think "she has finally lost it" - I understand that you haven't lost it - but you just don't want to get pushed around any more -and you do know what is best for Kevin.

SOOO relieved to read that you had Kev out and about today. That must have been just what everyone needed. I have a friend, his name is Rocky, he's definitely not the minivan kinda guy. Well now he has 3 kids and had to sell his Harley to get a minivan! Anyway I ran into him at a red light the other day and when the light turned green he floored it and peeled rubber like there was no tomorrow laughing a very maniacal laugh (said kids were not in car :-)). So they can be sorta fun!! Hee hee.

Hope you all have a great day today and that Kev is feeling even better. God bless you Leslie, Kevin and Breezy, please know that enormous hugs and tons of prayers are always on their way to you.

Congratulations on being a mini-van driving mamma! So glad you were able to get Kevin out for a drive. It's got to be good for him to breathe some fresh air - and for you, too!

Have fun visiting with Traci this weekend. She's bringing lots of love from all of us! We all wish we could come with her.

Wonderful news about the van and getting Kevin out! I'm glad that his therapies are going well and pray that he continues to progress.

My sister, Gillian, the 7th grade science teacher, had her kids make the cards and said they really got into it. Some of the kids even wrote special notes! It was very meaningful to them and I hope Kevin enjoys the handmade cards. :) They will be coming from Virginia.

Hello Leslie.....
aka 'Pit Bull Mommie'

Hope you like your new title?
You just got to be one when dealing with Morons and BS.

I bet his face was screwed up with a BIG old frown.
Don't worry after going out anytime he really wants to without the problems of finding transport he will L-O-V-E it. Especially, if he get to the beach to watch the girls in their skimpy swim suits.
HEY!! He is still a red-blooded MALE', P-B Mommie'.

I hope the M-van has a lift? It would make everything SO much easier on you and Kevin.

Was so GLAD to hear that Kevins day was one that was enjoyable and interesting. Car rides do wonders for the Spirit.

{Is Kevin wearing a 'hoodie'. If you have one you can always get it screen printed with 'The Stand' and the date he was there. That should stop the stares.}

Don't worry to much about the gym, he will get into the game plan again when he knows it will not go away.
Be sure to NOT let him forget, P-B Mommie.
Nagging can do wonders ESPECIALLY if its done with promises of lots of Cheese Cake as reward for a job well done.

Glad to hear that you are getting that much need rest.

Leslie,Breezy and Kev,

I am so glad you got to take Kevin out! The house and good health are coming. It is always so humbling to meet with you and Breezy. Your family is in my nightly prayers.

I hope one or both will be able to join me at my home for the holiday.
A little break is well deserved.
