Day 925 - Dec 10, 2010

Can you believe that Kevin can count up to 50 now? Yes, he stumbles over some of the numbers (ten, twelve, etc), but he can do it with a few little nudges from either me or his speech therapist. He also has almost all of the days of the week down pat as well. The other day I taught him to say "come here" and he also says "I'm going to walk". I have tried to get him to say "I'm going FOR A walk", but no go. No matter though - I'll take it. And so will he.

He isn't getting frustrated as often as he used to. Partly because he is able to say much more than he used to and I think in part because he has just accepted that he is limited and needs to find alternate modes of communication at times. The therapist even mentioned today that she is seeing a difference in the last few weeks and I totally agree.

All around, really. I really need to video tape him so that you guys can all see the difference too. You would just be amazed.

i smiled reading your post today. there have been so many ups and downs with kevin in the last 900+ days but i'm reading very positive things and te thead of positive in a great many of your messages are way more than the little negative setbacks. in fact, the negative have been mostly about things other than kevin, like the elevator, the audit, moving, the van breakdown, etc.
i know the power of prayer WORKS. and it works on someone else's "time frame". kevin wasn't miraculously "cured" and he and you have worked hard to get here but someone gave you the opportunity to get to this point. i remember in the beginning, the thought that he may never get out of bed or a wheelchair and never say or interact in any way. wow, it's been a hard tough ride to get here but i think it's just going to get better and better. i'm praying for that for you.
:) great news! keep up the good work.

I was so happy to read your comments today too. I love hearing of Kevin's accomplishments and the fact that he seems more satisfied to be able to communicate better and be more independent.
The pride on this end continues, and I know you are probably bursting at times.
Have a great weekend!

Wow, that's great Kevin is doing so well with his speech! It's been a long road and I admire his determination. It's really paying off. I'm sure it helps, too, that his pain is under control without the opiates.

Are you getting a Christmas tree this year? Do they even have pine trees in that climate?

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers! Take care.
