Day 242 - Jan 28, 2009

We had a very busy day today. We spent the late morning/early afternoon with 4 more football players - including Franco Harris. Here are some pics:

These guys were really great to everyone. They even brought the patients each an autographed Super Bowl hat. Kevin was pretty excited!

And y'all will have to excuse me because I don't know who these players are. I can read on Kevin's hat that one is Lydell Mitchell, but other than that - I have no clue. For those of you that do know - please put it in a comment so that I can keep a record for Kevin.

And tomorrow both of my kids are going to the taping of a Mike and Mike Show from ESPN. I don't know anything about this show either, so if it's live - you will want to tape it from maybe 8:30 on. If it's taped for future airing - it could be on the next day. I honestly don't know, but only 2 active duty soldiers were being taken and Kevin is one of them. He may end up being on tv - who knows. After that, the kids are going to a meet & greet of sorts to hobnob with some of the NFL stars. Unfortunately - I can't go (although the only reason I would want to is to take pics, lol). Kev was only able to take one guest and I opted to let Breezy go as she is the fanatic in the family.

Once that is over, Mike Ditka will be back and he is coming down to be with Kev and some of the other guys at the Fisher House. I had to talk to Public Affairs today because there are going to be some tv crews here with him and they want to possibly have some shots of Kevin (maybe because he is from the Burgh?).

I just hope that Kev can handle all of this in one day. This would all exhaust a healthy person so I can't imagine how Kevin is going to handle it all. I guess we'll know tomorrow, huh?

I didn't know what they would do with the terrible towels in Florida, but now I'm glad I sent them.

It's great to see Kevin up and walking.

FAN-TASTIC! Your kids had to be so excited with the players' visits. I'll bet someone at the hospital, maybe a PR person, could tell you who the visitors were.

And it's great to see the pics of Kevin and hear that he's walking more, and stayed over with you at the house - PROGRESS!! Maybe helps make up a little for the days that aren't so good, and helps keep you all going.

I am loving all these photos. They make me so happy. Sending extra big hugs and thoughts out (haven't commented in a few days, but I've been reading) and sending strength for Kevin to make it through the day tomorrow without getting too tired out. I'm sure he and Breezy will have a BLAST!!

Don't worry Les, Kevin will be able to handle it! He is surrounded by people he admires. He is surrounded by NFL players. He may be exhausted afterward and sleep for 2 days..lol.., but his adrenaline will be pumping and he will handle it. :-)

The pictures are AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for posting them. I absolutely love to see Kevin and Breezy smiling!!

Hope you all have a great day today!

Healing and positive thoughts for Kevin.
Strength and comfort for Leslie and Breezy.
Safe thoughts for all military personnel and strength for their families.
BIG HUGS AND ALL MY LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!!

Just a little FYI from an active duty spouse. You might not be able to take advantage of this offer now, but it's good for all of 2009 so you might want to just mentally file it away.

Disney World is offering an incredible offer to the military. They are offering the active duty member a FREE 5 day pass and family members 5 day passes for $99. Also, if you haven't heard of it already, there is a military hotel on Disney property that's really nice. Whenever we go, that's where we stay. It's called Shades of Green and the rates are based on the rank of the active duty member. You may or may not be able to take advantage of the offer, but I thought I'd send the info along.

I read your blog daily and you and your family are in my prayers. God Bless You!!

Kevin was walking around the place - steps in the right direction!!!!! I think of the last 242 days and what this young man has endured and fought through...oh my goodness. There are pictures of him walking. Everything else that is happening is icing on the cake. Can you even imagine that many weeks ago we all were praying that he would make it through fever, surgery, etc. No matter how horrible the economy, no matter how awful things get, we all collectively put Kevin in our prayers and look where he is. I know he has a way to go, but on my, the blessings that have already been delivered.
Go Kevin!!!!!
Go Steelers!

So exciting to see the pictures! I know your kids are having a great time! I sure wish I had Terrible Towel. I grew up in Pittsburgh, now live in SC. But, Pittsburgh, your my home.

Sounds like Kevin had a great day yesterday and I hope today was just as good. I love that photo of the guy on the hobby horse! I'd love to see the clip of Mike and Mike with Kevin on it if anyone has a link.

Praying for Kevin's strength to not only hold up, but to increase every day. It's been great hearing so much good news lately regarding Kevin's health!
