Day 53 - July 23, 2008

The surgery went very well! I am hoping that some of the swelling will go down tomorrow and if it does - we may be able to see Kevin's eyes open because his upper lid can still go up. That is so exciting! I just hate not being able to see his eyes!

And I am very happy to say that Kevin's head was reduced in size by 2 centimeters! The docs are applying gentle pressure to his head in the hopes that between that and him sitting more upright, the fluid will start to reabsorb. I so hope so!

I also haven't heard any results from any of the cultures from the CSF and the fluid from his chest cavity, but he is still not on any antibiotics so I would say "so far, so good"!

We didn't get to see much of Kevin today because he slept on and off the bulk of the day due to the anesthesia. He needs his rest, so we let him have it.

Wouldn't it be just wonderful if everything all worked out?

Leslie,

Isn't it amazing what progress Kevin has made. Prayer, positive thoughts, good doctors, a fantastic mom and sister and his determination make all the difference. Hang in there.

I just wanted to let you know that Kev is constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

I found your blog last Sunday. I was just sickened by what you had described happening to Kevin. I am just so angry that it happened and continues to happen to so many others. I can't even imagine how you feel.

Thank you for telling his story. It really has changed my perspective. I have always know war is "dangerous" and there are "casualties", but I guess since I didn't have a direct connection it didn't effect me the way it should.

You have introduced me to Kevin Kammerdiener, the person, the young man, the brave soldier and I thank you. Kev will pull through. He is a strong, brave soul, he inherited that from you! You are both amazing and my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you constantly.

Your blog has had a tremendous impact on me. I can't get Kev off my mind. I update my family on Kev's progress everyday. I don't want my daughters to be as removed from this part of the war as I was. I want their hearts to truly be grateful for the sacrifices made by all of the "REAL", brave, people in our armed services. We are all praying for Kev and your family.

Let Kev put you in a head lock for me!! LOL

Peace,
Michelle

Hey Leslie its Megan, I've been checking your blog as often as I can. I think of you and your family all the time. I hope you don't mind a little good news. The wedding was beautiful, I had a blast, I only wish you could have been there, but I understand that being with your son is the number one thing in your life right now. I love you and always think about you. You are one of the nicest, sweetest, honest people I have ever met. If anyone deserves to have things go right in their life it is you. I will keep you and yours in my thoughts always. Love Megan
