Day 48 - July 18, 2008

I was a little bit late getting to the hospital today because I had to go to the orthodontist (I have neglected my braces too long) and then pick my sister, Kim, up at the airport and one of my absolute favorite nurses was chomping at the bit for me to get there. When I finally did she came bopping out to get me (Kev is in a locked down area) and was like "We have a surprise for you!" I hurried up to his room and they had his bed in an almost 'sitting up' position! It was just so exciting!! It looked like he was just sitting on a bed watching tv. It was so great to see and once again, I will say that he is progressing rapidly every single day. Today he was more alert and he seems to be responding more. I noticed too that his left hand movements are a bit more steady every day.

I have to say that it is very impressive to me that some of the nurses and physical therapists are as excited as I am about all of his progress. It warms my heart every time I hear one of them get excited telling me about something he did or see a sparkle in their eye when he does something in front of all of us. I will reiterate something I said a long time ago - if you have bitter feelings about mankind, please go to a burn unit. Or just learn from what you see here on this blog.

So East Brady is having it's annual Riverfest this weekend and I guess a bunch of Kevin's friends all rode their skateboards in the parade tonight. I sent Breezy home with my digital camera to film it and I can't wait to see all the kids. I'll bet they all loved riding right down Main St and Kev would be grinning seeing everyone do that for him. Pretty cool, huh?

I sure miss Breezy. I hope she's having fun though...

To be honest, this is not one of my better posts and I am calling it quits early tonight. I woke up with a headache this morning and it's still just lingering. I sure hope it's gone by tomorrow.

Take care, everyone!

Leslie,

To be honest, this IS one of your better posts. The relationship you must have with the hospital staff is phenomenal. They most certainly have become your extended family and you have become that to them.

While driving through town this evening, I caught a glimpse of Brianna and SO wanted to stop and let her know how happy it was to see her. She was surrounded by people and no place to park. On my way back through again, same situation.

It was so good to see her...if only from a distance. : )

I hope to see her before she returns to you. I have something I want her to take back for you.

I can't believe the days you are having. I can't believe Kevin is out of a coma.

Have you ever just wanted to pinch yourself to make sure you realize you are part of a miracle taking place ??

Praying for this miracle to continue...so you can bring Kevin home. East Brady most certainly is your home. : )

I'm sure Brianna feels it now more than ever.

Yay Kev! It's so inspiring to hear what Kevin has overcome. Miracles can truly happen and hearing this one unfold had been awesome.

If you guys need anything, Moe knows how to get a hold of me. I don't mind even if it's just to rant. I think about you guys everyday.

Leslie, I wanted to say this to you in an email but I don't have your address. I did not want to call you and bother you as I know how busy you are with Kevin.
So I will settle for saying it to you here, and if you feel you should delete it I understand.

First of all, I want to apologize to you.

I was aware of some "issues" with your blog and some of Tim & mine friends when Tim was down there. Then today a friend of yours emailed me and made me aware of another "issue". When I got some time I came and read some of the posts. I do have two friends by the name of Debbie. However I can't image it being either of them. But that is not my point.

My point is. You, Tim and I definitely have our disagreements, this is not the time nor the place to be venting them. This is the most tragic time in your life ( not excluding Breezy or Kevin but this note is to you ) and no matter what we ( tim, myself and/or any of our friends ) think of your posts, this is your blog and what you post in it is your opinion and your option to post.

So again I apologize on behalf of anyone who we know who has posted anything negative here.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin, Breezy and you daily.
Beth :)

PS: I forgot to say, that I have emailed all of mine & Tim's friends and told them if any of them were doing this, to stop it immediately.

Leslie,
The progress of Kevin is so exciting. How proud you must be. Sounds like the hospital staff is full of wonderful people. Thank God for people like that and their knowledge. Let me tell you, those friends of Kevin's in the parade wore their "Kevin" t-shirts proudly and the smile on all of their faces said it all. It was very heart warming to see those kids doing something for one of our Heros, "A Hometown Hero". (A little tearful to) Hope your headache went away, and you had a good sleep, can't wait to read about Kevin tonight. Hugs and Prayers.

Yay! I'm glad to hear Kevin is now sitting up. He just might prove the doctors wrong about going to Tampa by month's end! If he can keep sitting upright, his body should be better able to deal with the excess fluid.

I'm sorry to hear that you are temporarily on your own, but it sounds like the staff certainly has a sweet spot for you and your family. Continue to take care of yourself, and we'll continue to pull for all of you.

WAY TO GO, KEVIN! Oh, Leslie, I am so glad the nurses show their love and enthusiasm for Kevin's recovery. Half sitting up is amazing! And I agree with "Lisa", in that I think every blog entry of yours is great, no matter how long, short, positive, less than positive news, it all is forming this incredible weave of an amazing story, and we all appreciate what you do every time we log on to read more.

I pray the headache goes away!

My family and I are headed to Riverfest this weekend, so I am hoping to catch a moment with Breanna, if she is around. Mainly, we are going to support you Kevin and Breezy!! Gonna get my bracelet, I hope!!

Take care. Love hugs and prayers. Always.

A child can "feel" his Mother's presence even if he cannot see her.

Kevin has known you have been with him all along. You have given him such strength to move forward and try harder through your love for him. He trusts you.

You are a living testament to Mother's Day..24 / 7.

There are so many emotions running strong here. Kevin's life has touched so many. Praying for continued healing for Kevin and peace.

Hope today is another good one. I also missed the parade, but through newspaper clippings, articles and friends taking photos...I imagine Kevin is going to have a wonderful "scrapbook" to one day view. : )

( Hope on my way to the store and back I see Brianna again ).
